Melee vs Ranged Weapons in Arc Raiders
Melee and ranged weapons serve fundamentally different roles in Arc Raiders combat. Each has unique strengths that make them invaluable in the right situation. Smart raiders know when to use each.
Damage Output
Melee weapons often have high single hit damage but require you to be in striking distance. Ranged weapons deal damage from safety but individual shots may do less. Per hit, melee often wins. Over the course of a fight, ranged typically deals more total damage due to continuous fire from a safe distance.
Ammo and Resources
Melee weapons never run out of ammo. This is a massive advantage on long raids where ammo management becomes a concern. Ranged weapons consume ammunition that takes up inventory space and requires crafting or purchasing. For extended farming runs, melee saves significant resources.
Safety and Risk
Ranged combat lets you deal damage without exposing yourself to attacks. Melee requires closing distance, which means taking hits. Against ranged enemies, closing the gap is dangerous. Against melee enemies, meeting them in close combat can be efficient if your weapon hits harder.

Melee weapons with sweep attacks can hit multiple enemies at once, making them effective against groups in tight spaces. Ranged weapons handle groups better from a distance where you can thin the crowd before they reach you. The environment often determines which approach works best.
