Renegade vs Tempest in Arc Raiders
The Renegade and Tempest are both meta defining weapons in Arc Raiders. The Renegade is the accessible workhorse while the Tempest is the endgame powerhouse. This comparison helps you decide which to pursue.
Raw Performance
The Tempest outperforms the Renegade in raw damage numbers and overall combat effectiveness. It fires faster, hits harder per shot, and handles better. However, the performance gap is not as massive as you might expect. A well upgraded Renegade competes respectably with a base Tempest.
Accessibility
The Renegade is significantly easier to craft and find. It requires lower station levels and more common materials. The Tempest demands endgame stations and rare materials. For most of your Arc Raiders career, the Renegade will be your go to weapon while the Tempest remains a late game goal.
Upgrade Investment
A fully upgraded Renegade performs excellently and can handle all content in the game. The Tempest starts stronger and scales even higher with upgrades. If you plan to invest heavily in weapon upgrades, the Tempest provides a better return on investment. If you want to spread upgrades across multiple weapons, the Renegade is efficient enough.
Risk Assessment
Losing a Tempest in a failed raid stings significantly more than losing a Renegade. The replacement cost in materials and crafting time is much higher. Some experienced players deliberately run Renegades for risky runs and save the Tempest for content where success is more assured.
Meta Position
Both weapons are firmly meta. The Tempest sits in S tier while the Renegade holds strong A tier. Neither choice will hold you back. The difference between them matters most in PvP at the highest skill levels where the Tempest's superior stats provide a meaningful edge.
Verdict
The Tempest is objectively the stronger weapon but the Renegade offers 90 percent of the performance at a fraction of the cost. Run the Renegade until you can comfortably craft and replace Tempests. Then switch to the Tempest for PvP and keep the Renegade for farming runs.
